#9 - Top 20 influential Albums

Writer's picture: Joanna & Peter GreenJoanna & Peter Green

Now! THIS album I am deeply passionate about. It's also likely to be the most recent on this top 20 list.

Eleven months ago I was perusing the NPR Music Youtube channel and stumbled upon Sid Sriram's Tiny Desk Concert. I'm impressed by all the TDC's so I opened this one up and was instantly mesmerised. I will link it below!

The VOICE! Oh the sweet, sweet voice. Sid Sriram's voice control is perfection. He started learning Carnatic singing when he was a little tiddler. Carnatic is the main style of classical music in southern India. He blends this style with his American musical influences but conforms to neither, creating a mix that is truly enthralling.

I had the TDC video on repeat for weeks. I'd hook it up to bluetooth in the car on my way to work every morning and it never failed to raise a new sort of feeling in me. The way Sid delivers beautifully intricate songs and sings each with passion. You can tell he means them with all his heart.

In the TDC video he mentions his new album coming out so I had to wait ever so patiently for it to arrive, which it did in August 2023, and it did not disappoint. This thing is ethereal AF! It's incredibly hard to choose a favourite song from the Album but I will say, "Quiet Storm" seems to speak to my soul on every listen.

I'm crossing all my fingers and toes that he'll one day tour NZ as his live shows look incredible. Please please do watch the TDC video below then listen to the album. I hope you love it as much as I do!
